Katharine Carroll Takes the Podium in Tour of New Zealand

Do you remember when the girl in green used to sell you your cycling jerseys? Now our own Katharine Carroll is racing for the US National Team in the Tour of New Zealand. The US team has just completed a week of racing in Australia to prepare our 2008 Olympians for next summer. Katharine has made the most out of her support role and taken the sprinter's jersey for the past two days. See your own hometown girl made good at cycling news.com or on the site for the Tour of New Zealand. More pictures at right under Nashville Kat.

And in answer to your question, yes, she is our daughter...

Another Celebrity in Our Midst

Dawn Kinnard
So which guy in the shop is married to an up and coming recording star? Yes, it's Britton. We are glad to have Britton on the sales floor in the shop, but we probably need to thank his wife's rising star for bringing Britton to Nashville. Brit and wife Dawn moved from Pennsylvania to get closer to the recording industry. In typical Music City Fashion, Dawn picked up some local gigs and was discovered by her manager singing in a bar. With a few trials in the US and UK, Dawn's unique and original style was most celebrated in London... Dawn is currently touring in the UK to critical acclaim and has just signed to new label Kensaltown Recordings. She's poised to release her debut "7" early in 2008. Read a few words about Dawn appearing on Band Weblog:

A weird yet wonderful Pennsylvanian, Dawn Kinnard will be one of those surely to get into the Mercury Shortlist in 2008. With songwriting that breaks all current trends, Dawn is as original as she is incredible. With excellent live shows in London, Dawn picked up features from the Guardian Music online and Q4 Music along with that vital word of mouth ’secret for 2008′ vibe. Always surprising the audience with her guest performer for sublime track “Clear The Way”, Dawn recently was joined on stage by Cerys Mathews in London’s Soho Revue Bar. Dawn Kinnard’s debut single “Fortune Teller / Devils Flame” has already had Radio 1, 2 and 6Music spins and is due for release in January 2008 with the album ‘The Courtesy Fall’ set for an April 2008 release.
If you missed Dawn when we did an impromptu music night in the bike shop (yes, the accoustics are surprisingly good in there and yes, Lynn got to accompany Dawn on drums), check out her tunes at  www.dawnkinnard.com/

"I've never been in a shop like this..."

Casati - Everything is made in Italy - tubing, frame, accompanying bottle of chianti...
"I've never been in a shop like this..."

We hear it a lot... And we love it, because we like to be different. A lot of people said that you couldn't create a shop quite like ours - that you couldn't specialize in the best high end in the market and keep your doors open. As we plan our fifth year anniversary party for the summer, we celebrate that It Can Be Done! Here's the secret - We love what we do. We love to sell bikes -

  • We love to give the first time buyer that perfect fit - in size, in price, and in model - you'll never ride it if it's not right
  • We love to sell the "next bike" - the I fell in love with the sport, and now I am ready to buy what I really care about
  • We love to sell the "reward" bike - the "I lost the weight", the birthday bike, the special gift bike, yes, we've even seen the "engagement" bike
  • We love to take care of people who ride - we have a full service department, we build wheels, we tweak and adjust, but most of all, we stand behind what we sell

Come check us out - you can see the finest handmade craftsmanship on two wheels and you can find the perfect road bike for the greenest beginner wondering why people keep yapping about these guys Campy and Shimano - all in one spot. Scroll all the way down the page for a run through of some of our favorite eye candy on the floor in June...

Hope on Wheels - Women Cycling on the Trace for a Cure

Gran Fondo serves as the primary bike shop sponsor for  Hope on Wheels, an annual cycling event held in early September each year.  Women riders  chose from rides of 29, 62 or 100 miles in this cycling event  held on the Natchez Trace Parkway. in two years, participants  fundraising for breast cancer research have raised over $165,000 as they rode in honor of loved ones touched by this disease.  The Minnie Pearl Cancer Foundation  directed funds to research. This year Orbea Bicycles will work with us to donate two carbon road bikes to be awarded to top fundraisers for this worthy cause.

All event expenses were underwritten by sponsors, leaving every dollar of registration fees and fundraising directly benefitting our cause. See the incentive prizes donated by Gran Fondo and Orbea in the store while you register. Read more at HOW100.org.
