Our Triathlon Team:

In 2008  we were pleased to introduce a Gran Fondo Cycles multisport team organized under the umbrella of our cycling club. The club membership included approximately 40 individuals with varying degrees of interest in triathlon. Members have the opportunity to get involved at any level. Gran Fondo athletes range in skill from those that our nationally ranked to the person still considering their first multisport event. Our triathlon team is a great family, a welcoming and supportive environment for athletes!

Team Clothing Order:

Orders for team clothing should be placed prior to November 24,2008. To assist you in your ordering, please note that there will not be large changes in the design of team clothing from the prior year. The jerseys will be relatively the same with a few changes in sponsor logos. Louis Garneau will again be the clothing manufacturer. Please pay close attention to specific notes about the clothing by type:
  • The items listed under the Club Section of the order form include the standard Gran Fondo cycling jersey and shorts options.
  • The items listed under at the Racing Specific Section of the order form include certain pieces that will be all of a greater interest to the race team. The Carbon Ion Jersey is a true race day piece - it is ultra lightweight, providing no sun protection and is a more trim fit than the standard jersey. Most racers would want to order one of these and some of the standard club jerseys for training. The Euro Bib (Race Fit) is highly sublimated and has no grippers.
  • The Triathlon Clothing will be further evealuated in the early spring. We will bring forward the 2008 team clothing items and supplememnt with some additional pieces. We will try to do some team specials on one piece tri suits or other race day pieces based on member needs (or wants). Sign up now and stay tuned for details.

Please print the file below and complete, or stop by the shop to complete your copy. Please do not e-mail your forms in scanned or file form. We don't have the organizational desire to keep up with too much automation - after all, this is a bike shop...

Our Next Group Rides

Sunday, October 19th
Sunday, November 9th POSTPONED
9:30 a.m, Model Airplane Field

Please join us on Sunday, October 19th or November 9th at the Model Airplane Field at 9:30 a.m. for our group rides. We will offer a 35 and 50 mile option. We will be looking for some club members to volunteer to help us lead and sweep each route. Chat with your fellow team members if you would like to divide these responsibilities and mix it up a little. Taking an organizational role in our group ride is a wonderful way to meet new people!

POSTPONED - Our ride leader had to postpone. We will get another date on the schedule soon. Maybe you guys can just meet over there and ride a great ride anyway? We promise we had a good reason for cancelling!

Leisure Cyclists and Racers Join Ranks to Break 4 Hr Century

It's a lot of fun at Gran Fondo to see the different views of the riders who race and the riders who don't. You'll find Jeff Bauer's ride report on a sub 4 century a great tale of the two cultures coming together. A top notch road racer and an accomplished randonneur team up to break the four hour mark on a full century. Get the full story in GF Recommends.

Gran Fondo Reaches Out…

In an effort to promote World Peace, Gran Fondo is reaching out to a team of enthusiastic racers in Egypt.

A few months ago, one of our racers, Byron Taylor, came to us with a special request.  A friend of his in Egypt has gotten to know a team of racers ranging in age from 20 to 24, who up until recently did not have helmets or water bottles and have been riding in ancient leather lace-up shoes.  As there is no bike shop in sight for these guys, Byron asked us to help him by ordering helmets and water bottles for him to send to them.

We have already sent a couple of care packages including helmets, water bottles, and cycling clothing and are about to send another care package.

Thank you to all of you who brought in items for us to send!  We received 6 pairs of shoes and many jerseys and shorts.  You guys are awesome and your contributions are so greatly needed and appreciated!
