Jeff Bauer, Alan Gosart, Robert Hendry, and Vida Greer
Four Gran Fondo endurance cyclists attempted to set a new Four-Person Mixed Team Self-Supported record on the Heart of the South 500 this April. Read about how they trained and rode 517 miles in the mountains of northern Alabama and Georgia as fast as they could, without any sleep!
When people begin talking about crazy cycling stunts in the Southeastern United States, Jeff's name will soon come up. From crossing the country on a fixed gear bike, famous climbs on a tandem, or 3-Gaps on a unicycle, Jeff has done it.
Vida Greer, one of the owners of Gran Fondo Cycles, is a climbing demon on a bicycle. The team plans to pit her talents against the steep sections of Cheaha - the steepest mountain in Alabama - and watch as she dances on the pedals all the way to the top.
Years of endurance cycling have taught Alan Gosart that he can 1) go very fast when he wants, 2) go very fast much longer than he thinks he can, and 3) sleep is over-rated
Although only in his fourth year of endurance cycling, Robert is a good all-around rider with broad experience. In 2008, he rode the Rocky Mountain 1200, crewed for the Gran Fondo Fixies on RAAM, and survived on of the toughest 200Ks around.
