A Big Announcement

May 15, 2019 Posted by Community, Events, Featured Posts, General 0 thoughts on “A Big Announcement”

I have a very big announcement. Some might say a bombshell. I am leaving the bike industry.
George Khoury and his capable crew will be taking over our space in the beginning of June as
Trail and Fitness. They will keep the road tradition of Gran Fondo, in addition to mountain
bikes, hybrids, and children’s bikes. You can also expect to still see Clayton and Phil back in
the service department. Our last day of business will be this Saturday, May18. We will also
have a final party on Thursday, May 23 starting at 5:00, more about that later.
After seventeen years of owning Gran Fondo and another ten years of bike shops, it is time for
me to try something else. I have loved every minute of serving our clients and working with the
various staff members that have graced Gran Fondo over the years. I feel that we pushed the
industry in a more professional direction and that we offered the very best in customer service
and solutions possible.
A special mention to Clayton Grindstaff . If there was ever a man behind the curtain, keeping
the wizard’s show going, it’s Clayton. We have spent the last fifteen years together creating
your dream bikes, solving bike fits, and keeping your bikes working. No one works harder or
takes more pride in their craft. I will miss his humor, talent, and resourcefulness.
Let’s celebrate the transition! We are going to have a party on Thursday, May 23, starting at
5:00. We will have your favorite beverages, live music, and a final sale. The VERY LAST Gran
Fondo custom jersey will be here in time for the party. It will be the only time to purchase it. I’m
hoping that you will all come and swap Gran Fondo stories and help us clear out the last bit of
our inventory. It should be fun.
Thank you to all of you. I have been able to spend the last twenty seven years getting to know
you, ride with, and call you my friends. I’ll always cherish this.

Why not be comfortable and get the most out of your bike? It only makes sense to get a bike fit when you are getting your first of the season tune up. We will make sure that you are happy with your saddle, your handle bar reach and height, as well as your cleat alignment. Just call us to set a reservation for your tune up and fit. We try to do your fit on the day that you are dropping off your bike. We will have your tune up ready the next day and ready to pick up by 5:00. Plan on allowing ninety minutes for your fit. If you have been thinking about lower, easy hill climbing gears, this is also a great time to figure that out.

Are you thinking that is time to retire your current bike? Maybe you want to try disc brakes, electronic shifting, or custom titanium. We love to help riders get to their dream bike. Sometimes it is much more affordable than you think. We sell Parlee, Mosaic, Bianchi, and Scott. All of these brands have high end offerings from race bikes to endurance and gravel bikes. We are here to help you decide the best fit and where to spend your money where to not waste it.

Mosaic makes custom titanium and steel frames. If you can dream it, they can build and paint it. We include a full fit session at the beginning of the purchase process to insure proper fit. These bikes are simply amazing.

The Parlee Altum Disc is available in stock and custom builds, including custom paint. Every frame size has three different head tube heights, allowing us to give you a custom fit, with out you having to paying a custom price. The stock paint and build kit bikes start at $4000. Custom kits and paint start at $4800. The Altum is really a value when you think about it. Smooth, fast, and comfortable.

The Bianchi Oltre XR 3 CV is available in either disc or rim brake builds. This is one fast bike and the Counter Vail substructure absorbs up to 75% more road vibration than a standard carbon fiber frame. Starting at $3800.

The Scott Addict 10 Disc is a great upgrade over your first alloy bike. The carbon fiber frame will soak up the road chatter and be much stiffer for climbing hills. The Ultgera 8000 shifters are amazing and the disc brakes are predictable and allow for 32mm tires. $2800

The Parlee Chebacco is made for long days in the saddle that include mixed roads. It will clear up to a 45mm tire, so go ahead and sign up for Dirty Kanza. The Chebacco is available with all the same stock and custom features as the Altum. There is even a flat bar version. Starting at $4000

The Bianchi Aria is one fast bike. Available with 105 or Ultegra in rim and disc brake options. Buy the Aria if you love fast punchy rides or want to do triathlons without riding a tri bike. Starting at $2600

So what bikes are women buying this year? All road bikes, endurance bikes, and aero bikes in small sizes. Enjoy a few pictures of some of the cooler women’s bikes that we have sold recently.

The Parlee Chebacco is ready for fun. Featuring disc brakes and clearance for a 45mm tire, this bike will go any where.

The Bianchi Aria is perfect for triathlons when you don’t want to ride a full blown tri bike. Honestly, this bike makes a really amazing Iron Man distance bike.

The Chebacco comes in custom and stock colors. You even get to pick your build kit.

The Bianchi Intenso Dama with Di2 Ultegra is sure to please on any century.

The Bianchi Infinito CV is one of the most comfortable bikes we have ever ridden, but don’t be fooled, it’s fast.

The Scott Addict Contessa is great for centuries and getting lost in the country. We love that it comes with 32mm tires.

We feel that everyone should be as comfortable as their fitness allows. We start every new bike purchase with a bike fit and size evaluation. We adjust the saddle height, the stem length, handle bar height and even help you make a better saddle choice before you ever test ride one of our bikes! How else will you know that this bike will work for you? We strive to help you make your new bike purchase the best experience possible.

We do offer fitting services for bikes that were not purchased from Gran Fondo. This is a reservation only service that usually takes one to two hours. This is a comprehensive fit that begins with a full body assessment. BG Fit is centered around your body and how it moves and holds its self up. We evaluate your actual body movements, alignments, flexibility, strengths , and weaknesses. We can adjust for pelvic rotations, leg length differences, neck issues, hot feet, you name it, and we will do our best to accommodate it. If you want the most out of your riding experience, we recommend booking a fit with us. We will adjust your saddle height, bar height, reach, and a saddle that fits you. We stock a full array of stems, handle bars, seat posts, cleats, and saddles to accommodate your needs.

We are here to improve your comfort and performance. We can often improve your position to help accommodate an injury or sometimes even fix it. We have over 24 years of experience at fitting bikes to their riders and understanding their needs. It doesn’t matter if you are looking for more speed, a custom built bike, or trying to find a saddle that will let you ride longer than 25 miles, we can help.

Tour de Pull Tight Hill & Arrington Vineyards

52 miles (43 mile option) 2800 feet elevation gain

Tour Description: This tour features some of my favorite country roads and scenery. The route starts in Brentwood and winds it’s way South. After summiting the 2km climb on Pull Tight Road and taking a quick breath to enjoy the view, riders will meander their way to Arrington Vineyards to regroup. From there, riders can either make the 10 mile return to our starting point or end their ride and join us in the van.

This is a relatively challenging loop. Experienced cyclists will likely complete the entire route less than 3.5 hours. More challenged riders might need to plan on ending their day at Arrington Vineyards to allow the tour to make the 2:30pm drop-off.

tour de Natchez Trace & Leiper’s Fork

56 miles (43 mile option) with 3000 feet elevation gain

Tour Description: Featuring almost 25 miles on the Natchez Trace Parkway, this tour is the shining example of what makes road riding in our area so special. Rolling hills, fantastic scenery, and no commercial vehicles are staples of the Natchez Trace. After spending the first half our ride on the Natchez Trace, the route winds its way to the “hidden gem” community of Leiper’s Fork. From there, riders can either get back on the Trace for the final 10 miles or call it a day and join us in the van.

This is a relatively challenging loop. Experienced cyclist will likely complete the entire route in 3.5 hours. More challenged riders might need to plan on ending their day in Leiper’s Fork to allow the tour to make the 2:30pm drop-off.
